Your childs next school

At the age of eleven all children transfer to secondary school.  The local authority will send parents particulars of all the options open to them in the autumn before they move.  A Year 6 parents evening is held in the autumn term to provide helpful information to parents about the transfer process.  Parents will also be invited to discuss issues with the school if they wish.

In order to ease the transfer to secondary school each childs abilities and progress are discussed with the school concerned.  Secondary school teachers visit Northdown School and the children before they transfer.  All pupils spend a day in their secondary school before they start in September.

All secondary schools hold open days/evenings where parents may visit each school and talk with staff.  These evenings are co-ordinated to enable parents to visit as many schools as they wish.

To conclude a little bit of history about Northdown School

The school is situated in Margate.  The school building was opened in 1969 with an additional building added in 1986. A new administration suite was completed in Spring 2006. The buildings include a large hall for P.E., drama, music, assemblies and lunchtimes.  There is also an ICT suite and library area.  The grounds are well landscaped and include two playgrounds, a large playing field and an environmental area at the back of the school.

Northdown has 11 classes and a nursery.  Children are admitted to either the nursery or school between three and eleven years of age.

The school has a planned admission limit of 48 for September 2006.  Children can start school in September as long as their birthday falls before 31st August.  All reception children attend part-time for Term 1 before full-time education in Term 2.
